Digital Strategy for NZ Parliament

As UX lead at Alphero, I worked alongside our principal consultants on a digital strategy for NZ Parliament. It was exploratory work: a chance to test different ways of presenting the core of Parliament's work, legislation, in a form the public could actually navigate.

The focus

Making legislation navigable

I concentrated on faceted navigation, flexible date filtering, and the connections between the documents that make up a bill's history.

My part of the work centred on building easy-to-follow faceted navigation, alongside different ways of accessing information through date filters. I also worked on giving people the full picture of how a piece of legislation comes to exist, by surfacing related links between the Hansard record, select committee work, and public submissions.

The outcome

Strategy not the build

In the end, Alphero was not selected to build the new website. That said, the thinking behind how bills and Hansard could be presented, particularly the connections between a bill, its committee stage, and public submissions, was carried forward beyond our involvement.

The low fidelity wireframes below were exploratory strategy work rather than a shipped product. It's included here for the thinking behind it, not as a delivered outcome.
